[K-Film] 2025 Korean Independent Film Showcase HOME/LAND HOME/LAND: Korean Independent Film Showcase presents a selection of films by Korean independent directors that reflect on migration, home, and belonging. These candid portrayals Koreans living abroad or intersectional identities settling in Korea offer personal and honest explorations of what it means to find a sense of home and belonging in unfamiliar places. Again the Wind Blows (또 바람이 분다) Screening 9 Oct, 7pm KIM Tae-il,JU Ro-mi | 2022 | Documentary | 104mins Ha Mun-soon, a peddler in Gwangju, and Park Bok-ja, a Chinese diner owner, witnessed the 5.18 Uprising, carrying both pain and pride from what they saw. In Cambodia, Sli and Neyap struggle as members of a minority tribe, uncertain how long their lives can continue. Palestinian women Noura and Fatma aged in refugee camps, mourning children lost to occupation, while in Bosnia, Ramiza and Amela recount the precarious lives of Gypsy women facing racism. Meanwhile, the director’s two children grow into young adults, their family journey mirroring the women’s stories of endurance. Life Unrehearsed (두 사람) Screening 23 Oct. 7pm BANPARK Jieun | 2022 | Documentary | 80mins Thirty-six years ago, Soohyun met In-sun at a Korean Christian Women’s Association retreat in Germany and gave her flowers. Despite threats from her then-husband and the disapproval of Korean society, In-sun found love and chose to be with Soohyun. Now, the two of them—who came to work as nurses in a foreign country where they knew nothing of the language—are still there and already in their seventies. For half of their life, they have lived together in Berlin and shared in all the joys and sorrows of life. Soohyun and In-sun have stood in solidarity with other foreigners like themselves while also looking after one another. They are two people who overcame boundaries. This is their love story. Daldongne 33 Up (사당동 더하기 33) Screening 16 Oct, 7pm CHO Uhn | 2020 | Documentary | 124mins This is an essay of a sociologist’s 33-year engagement with Grandma Jung’s family. The family was one of thousands families to be driven out in Sadang demolition area so called Daldongne, where sociological fieldwork started in 1986. Covering four-generation of the family up to 2019, the film testifies in vivid detail how the vicious circle of urban poverty is reproduced in various ways, ringing beyond the boundary of that one family. Short Films, Post Screening Talk with Director Li Hongmei Screening 30 Oct, 7pm Pollock (명태) Li Hongmei | 2017 | Fiction | 19mins A delivery person, Kim Su is learning Korean while working in Korea. One day, he happens to catch the criminal by motorcycle accident and get a bounty. As he gets money, he would like to treat his Korean teacher and classmates to meals. My Little Television (마이 리틀 텔레비전)Li Hongmei | 2019 | Fiction | 24mins A TV producer from a broadcasting station in Yanji, China visits so-called Chinatown of Seoul, Daerim-dong, to interview a Chinese Korea family. The producer spends a day with them while shooting their daily lives.

This year’s edition marks the 80th anniversary of Korea’s National Liberation, with a programme that includes Road to Boston, Mal Mo E: The Secret Mission, and Assassination, each offering a unique perspective on resilience, identity, and the pursuit of liberation. 1. [K-Film] Macao K-Movie Fest 2025 The Korean Cultural Center in Hong Kong presents the 2025 Macao K-Movie Fest, taking place on Saturday, July 26 at CGV Nova Mall, Macao, as part of the <2025 Korean Interactive Cultural Festival in Macau>. This one-day film program introduces the richness of Korean cinema to Macao audiences, while also commemorating the 80th anniversary of Korean National Liberation with a screening of Harbin (2024). Other featured films include the heartwarming panda documentary My Dearest Fubao (2024), the high-stakes disaster thriller Project Silence (2025), and the critically acclaimed liberation movement action film Assassination (2015).
